Terms

What this site is, what it is not, and the limits of what you can rely on.

This is general guidance, not a qualification. Guides describe common teaching practice and methods that work for most learners. They are not a placement test, not a certificate, and not personalised tuition. If an employer, a university or an immigration authority needs your English level, that requires a recognised assessment such as IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge.

Results vary, and we do not promise a timeline. Any figure in a guide — hours to fluency, weeks to a habit, months to a level — is a typical range from published research and classroom experience. Your first language, your exposure and how much you actually speak change it substantially.

Exam formats change. Where a guide describes an exam such as IELTS speaking, that is the format at the time of the last review. Exam boards revise their tests, and the official specification on the board’s own site is the authority.

Third-party tools and courses. Where a guide mentions an app, a book or a platform, it is a description, not an endorsement, and we are not responsible for what those services do or charge.

No commercial relationship with what we discuss. We are not paid for coverage and we do not sell courses. Nothing here is an offer to sell.

Accuracy and availability. We correct errors as we find them and re-date the affected guide, but we do not warrant that every page is complete or current, or that the site is available without interruption.

Content ownership. The text and design of this site belong to us. Quoting a passage with a link back is welcome; republishing whole guides is not.
